Doing some farting around in the man cave  Making some progress with the rear crossmember My babies getting wet Should be done with that tomorrow as well as finish all the welding on the back end. That should take care of about 90% of the frame/cage work. Still needs a few odds and ends. Then on to welding a high steer arm on the left knuckle and building a steering setup.

Good for you as far as the Dollar bills go, maybe the monopoly bills get accepted too lol Have fun, I am sure you two will thoroughly enjoy this trip. If you can swing it visit the Washington peninsula and Olympic national park well worth the visit
  4. Their single lever setup is pretty slick it's like a push pull type lever setup.

At higher elevations it gets cold close to year round, been in the high sierra part of Yosemite in early September where it was 38 C during the day here and it was below zero over there at night. You can get all kinds a funny weather in this great country year round. One thing I know for sure, you two will have a grand ole time traveling and taking in the sights. Got your route and total miles traveled figured out? Figure 6-8 miles per gallon on a good day at 4 bucks a gallon to be on the safe side. That should give you a reasonable fuel bill estimate. Most Wally worlds will let you use their parking lots to spend the night. For Campgrounds figure 20 bucks and up a night, for a motor home it would probably more in the direction of 30 bucks a night

Yellowstone is an amazing place. forgot what date you guys are leaving, but mountain passes as well as Yellowstone can still be snowed in around mid May. This depends somewhat on what kind of winter we get. But it can get cold in places, remember snowmobiling in Yellowsone and it was minus 30 celcius during the day and minus 40 at night. Here is a link to some pics from my last trip to Yellowstone http://public.fotki.com/aw12345/yellow-stone/

Sometimes it's just nice to sit back and look at a part that's semi finished

I really am starting to like the look of the front of this thing. Just haven't got a clue where I will hide the winch or how big a winch I'll need Would be cool to stuff something like a Warn 6000 lbs winch behind the radiator

lowrider Plenty of room for a Taurus or MK7 fan Jeep radiator looks right at home, found a spot for the trans cooler also

Fiddled around with the rear suspension some, looks like that is going to live the way it is. Going to plug the numbers in and if that comes out as happy as it looks I'll leave that alone. Just going to truss the rear axle some and gusset the frame side mounts to the crossmember add a few more pieces of tube and the back should be officially done. Next on the list is to mount the radiator and trans cooler. Then on to some bracing of the front tubing

Oops, something went missing Something went back on. It even sports a Jeep TJ radiator, fits it perfectly. Has enough room now for a double ended steering ram.

Started mocking up where the steering ram has to go. Where the piece of angle iron sits is what needs to become the bottom of the frame

Looks like I can make this driveline setup happen, going to have to find some U joints and I can weld the whole shebang together.

Neither can I' date=' I'll just keep pecking away at it and eventually it will be done. By the way Curtis if you want a Hammer beater that has actually a fair amount of nice stuff in it, check this one out http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/3357426944.html Coilovers and stickies what more could you possibly want for that amount of money. Anyway back to the scheduled program, got the crossmember tacked in now it needs some notching and French love so the primary drive shaft kind of runs through it, with a bit of work I should be able to get decent driveline angles, the thing is also [lenty stout to gusset the frame side control arm mounts too. Rear tube work is pretty much done, I am happy with it. Bottom of the frame is 24" of the ground and I am pretty happy with how it sits now and where the air shock travel is at. Should have the tube work for the back all done today, starting to like where the whole thing is going. Bought some 4"x4" square tubing 1/4" wall to built the crossmember and driveshaft support from.

Well today went from wood tinkering to steel tinkering. First made wife's day, hung the new door she has been wanting for a while. Planed and cut it to size last week, did a bit of fiddeling with it today and it fits like a glove. Then rolled my buggy outside and started playing with some ideas for a driveshaft. Seems to me this will work, will allow a crossmember between the lower control arms and not restrict rear axle travel. Going to add a bit of tube to the rear cage also kinda like this from both sides Then get some more tube and bend it so the rear has a bottom, kinda like this Here is the rough bodywork on Tinkertoy's hood, it is somewhat back to it's original shape

Moving right along Was doing some brain storming and it looks like I am going to use 2 piece rear driveshaft. Will make me feel better about the slip yoke in the rear of the trans, it will also allow me to built a crossmember between the frame side rear control arm mounts and incorporate the intermediate driveshaft support bearing in it. Then use a regular driveshaft with a slip yoke for the rear shaft. That way I can for one keep the drive line angles at a reasonable. level Nor have to worry as much about the yoke sliding in and out of the transmission.
