  5. Spend 3 of my vacation days in the Shaverlake area of Northern California. The Sieras are such a nice piece of nature and the area has some pretty nice trails to boot. On top of that it was nice to escape the head wave. 15 degrees Celius during the day instead of 40 is a big improvement. 3 degrees at night instead of 30 doesn't hurt either. We camped several nights at the side of different gorgeous mountain lakes. Golly life is good. The wheelin didn't disappoint either. Life at 3300 meters just isn't so bad every now and then camping 041 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr camping 034 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr camping 031 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr camping 030 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr Watching bats at dusk, skimming the lake to try and snag insects before the lil trouts jump out of the water to catch the insects is pretty cool. All in all a great time with some good 4 wheelin thrown in
  6. Headed up to Big Bear today to have a lil offroad fun, nothing to drastic Ran Holcomb, white mountain and John Bull. JB muched one of my old krawlers, so in the next couple of weeks will have two more MTR's on my pup put Jeep White mountain has one really nice climb, steep with some small ledges and all loose rocks, like trying to climb up a hill with ball bearings Was the best part of the day big bear white mountain 005 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr big bear white mountain 004 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr big bear white mountain 003 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr big bear white mountain 006 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr

  8. Somebody invitied me to come out for a lil play time on a stretch of blm land/ trash dump That is one of the coolest forgotten pieces of desert, just out of town if I ever seen such a thing. To bad people consider the desert a trash dump. Loose rocks, big rocks, steep climbs it has all kinds a playground stuff. No canyons, so you can just wander around boulder fields pretty darn cool. Loose rocks with sand in between make it fun and challenging. I hope Steve took some cool pics of my lil put put Jeep. oro grande 001 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr Some pics can be found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/19491564@N00/9447046202/in/photostream/ orogrande19 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr orogrande20 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr orogrande21 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr Steve trying to do some rock climbing Nice size boulders all over oro grande 004 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr
  9. Beautification is continuing
  10. On the Jeepin fixin front, made my winder yeller again. From this To this
  11. Look what happened after my nap Now add some yeller and it's all pretty again
  12. All mudded up Time for a nap, has been a productive day
  13. Dit is de tweede die ik er zo uit gehaald hebt, zou zelfs deze ruit weer kunnen gebruiken
  14. Well continued prettyfication Look ma no more holes
  15. De dingen die je met een brood mes doen kan Have been wanting to fix up my lil yellow Jeep for a while now. Since the windshield is cracked and the frame is the wrong color, that was a good starting point. Dug out my trusty bread knife and went to town, didn't even add another crack to the glass. Took about 30-40 mins of elbow grease to get that critter cut out On to welding some small holes in the frame shut, add bondo and then give er some pretty yeller paint Good thing windshields are cheap both my Jeep wanted new glasses
  16. Volvo C303 axles are a better choice. Same problem applies hard to built around while keeping Jeep relatively low and still achieve about 6" of uptravel.
  17. Unimog portals are a terrible choice. diffhousing is to big, up to high ,makes for a way to tall Jeep with almost no uptravel in the suspension. What it showes is that there is no more than 1/4" difference between the 14 bolt with 37" tires and a Dana 44 with 35" tires Dana 30 with 35" tires and Dana 60 with 37" tires same diff clearance. The bottom of the 14 bolt has been shaved a bit, do not care for the shave kits, takes to much strength out of the housing. Michel for mudding just roll some 40's or 43's under there, you got more than enough power for some serious mud dogging/ bogging

In between shooting the bull and resting up from a long hot work week, I managed to sneak a lil tinker time in
  19. Here is something for the high diff clearance crowd, which axle is under which Jeep and what has more clearance. Did some measuring today and thought this was interesting 35" tires versus 37" tires, all at 30 psi. Stock axles versus versus D60 HP and 14 bolt. Which is which? Where is the diff clearance advantage? Y'all tell me where the big advantage of weaker axles with less gearing choices is?
  20. It all comes off easy. Mud flaps come of in about 1 minute flat. Highway patrol demands tire coverage. Otherwise I wouldn't bother with it
  21. Well got her hiney somewhat covered up It's rednecked, but should keep PoPo of my @ss
  22. Getting ready for put put wheelin season

Did a lil bit of tinkering in the heat this afternoon. Darn piece was a pain in the neck to make. Astonished that my jig saw cut the curves in 1/4" plate.

Welding when it's a 100 degrees out just isn't all that much fun. Nevertheless there is progress
