Reluctantly putting my 1991 Jeep YJ Wrangler up for sale. I've owned it for 16 years, buying it in California and driving it there for about a year, before importing it to the UK when we moved here. It has performed faultlessly in those 16 years, expect for the engine swap mentioned below. However, I do not use it to it's full capability and would rather it go to someone who will enjoy it and use it as it should be used.
It is currently having a 'new' 4.0L (from a TJ Wrangler) engine being installed, as the engine that was in it was burning oil due to worn cylinder bores. I have driven the Jeep since the install and it drives very well. The 'new' engine has about 98,000 miles on it, which is almost nothing for the Jeep 4.0. Just waiting for the mechanic to install the temp sensor for the dashboard gauge and it'll be finished (by this weekend).

The good bits:
  • It has been fitted with an 'SOA' (Spring Over Axle) suspension lift, on Rubicon Express SOA springs, and tired but still effective Rancho shocks.
  • The steering has been converted to a 'high clearance' setup, which resolves the issues encountered when raising the Jeep. It tracks and turns flawlessly on this setup, with no 'bump steer'
  • The front (Dana 30) and rear (Dana 35, non C-Clip) rear axle are running 4:56 gears and ARB airlockers. The front axle has been converted to run XJ shafts, removing the vacuum disconnect issues that YJ's often have.
  • The NP231 transfer case has been fitted with the 'Tera-low' upgrades, giving a 4:1 low range ratio and 2wd low.
  • It has a Warn 9000i winch fitted. I've overhauled the winch a couple of years ago. Regreasing the gears and cleaning the motor. I've also installed a cutoff switch under the bonnet and remote in/out switch under the drivers seat.
  • Confer tube bumpers are fitted front and rear. These are not the cheap, and thin walled, tube bumpers that some people use. The thickness of the tube is 5mm and sealed end caps (not plastic). VERY solid.
  • Borla Exhaust and K&N air filters are fitted.
  • I have upgraded the rollbar to the later YJ version from the earlier CJ style rollbar. This provides better protection for the rear passengers and the ability to install 3 point harnesses in the rear (not included)
  • I have removed the badly installed set of switches the previous owner had fitted to run the various extra accessories. Replacing them with new switches, and better wiring, included individually fused systems and separate earths, with a master switch to control all of them.
  • I have converted the air conditioning pump (Sanden) to OBA (on board air) and converted the tube bumpers to double as air tanks. There is a quick connect for air on the front, rear, and under the bonnet. This system also powers the ARB lockers and uses the ARB pressure switch to make sure it never blows the ARB seals. There is also a safety valve installed to the system.
  • It has an electronic idler control, which allows you to set the rpm of the vehicle manually when winching, using the OBA, etc.
  • Tuffy centre console has been fitted, giving an incredibly spacious storage room between the front seats and security for your CB and radio
  • It is fitted with a AM/FM/CD/USB/AUX/Bluetooth radio, with hands free cellphone calling (mic on dash).
  • Running on 33" BFG mud terrain tyres, on American Racing wheels. The rears are about one year old, all have plenty of tread left on them, as does the spare. The wheels are showing their age and are in need of refurbishment.
  • IPF headlights and PIAA Pro 80 XT spotlights. The spotlights are wired into the main beams currently.
  • I have a small pile of additional parts for the YJ. Including axle rebuilt kits, transfer case chain, an extra winch rope (wire, never used), recovery straps, tow bars and tow hooks (for the 2" receiver hitch), UJoints, gaskets, Shop manual (well used, but complete), and various other items.
  • I has complete LPG system for a 4.0 engine, which i will include if requested for an additional £100.
  • Currently MOT'ed.

    The bad bits:
  • It's a 27 year old Jeep. That has been used as a Jeep should, in 4 countries. And it shows. But, it's still in good shape and 'straight'.
  • The drivers seat has a split in it.
  • The shock absorbers are tired. Still effective, but could do with replacing.
