Een tip uit de UK voor de liefhebbers B)

Not mine: remember that one on ebay a few months ago? Well the buyer contacted me today to see if I was interested in buying it, and im not, but here is the write up he intends to use on ebay in a few weeks, drop me a PM if you want his mob:

> Jeep J20 Recovery Vehicle Pickup Project Camper, etc

> Hello and welcome to my advert for a rare and unusual project with

> LOADS of potential. See the end of the ad for suggestions.

> Firstly, please don't underestimate how big this vehicle is. It's

> approximately 20 feet long, approximately eight feet high (plus the

> beacon) and about the width of a van, so if you only have a short

> drive then don't even read any further. Oh, it also weighs about three

> tons, so you'll need a substantial jack, too !

> I bought this vehicle on an impulse a few weeks ago. There wasn't time

> to go and see it before the auction ended so I took the risk and

> bought it blind. Now it's standing on my drive I realise that maybe

> it might be not the sort of thing I'm looking for, so I've decided to offer it for

sale.

> If it doesn't sell in a few weeks then I'm going to bite the bullet

> and do it up myself.

> The previous owner was somewhat economical with his description of the

> vehicle but I'm going to be as honest as I can so you know exactly

> what it is you're buying.

> The Jeep was originally a fire tender in service with East Sussex Fire

> Brigade. Since then it has been owned by enthusiasts, reputedly spent

> some time at Heathrow airport and was finally bought by a garage in

> London that was going to use it as an air cushion rescue vehicle (i.e.

> inflating big air bags to get trucks that have fallen over back on

> their wheels). It was originally red, and you can see a picture of how

> it would have originally looked, here:

5503.jpg

> The vehicle is based on a right-hand-drive 1984 American Jeep J20

> chassis which has been lengthened to take an additional trailing axle.

> Please be aware of this: it's four wheel drive, not six. The back

> wheels aren't driven and just trail along for the ride. I haven't

> tested the four wheel drive yet.

> It's driven by an American Motors Corporation (AMC) 360 cubic inch

> (about

> 5.9 litre) V8 petrol engine with a single Motorcraft carb, which

> drives through a three speed automatic gearbox.

> The front of the vehicle is a separate steel typical pickup cab which

> will seat three (maybe even two adults and two small children?) on a

> single bench seat. The rear is a mainly aluminium body which was

> specially built by Angloco. It has aluminium roller shutter doors and

> a couple of locker-type doors at the rear, and is fitted out with shelving, etc.

> Apparently it was an expensive vehicle in its day (£18750 for the

> chassis and £12675 for the Angloco body, apparently).

> The rear also contains a large Hydrovane compressor (not tested) and a

> reel of hose to connect to the compressor (not tested). There is a

> stemlight beacon on the top of the body which apparently raises to

> quite a height and has floodlights underneath, but the wiring seems to

> have been disconnected and I have not tested this.

> Condition-wise, it isn't too bad for a twenty six year old vehicle. It

> has obviously stood for some time (the mileage is a very low 51000

> approx) and it needs a bit of work, but it is by no means a shed. The

> pickup cab has a couple of rust holes in it and the aluminium rear

> body could do with a bit of attention in places. All the shutters roll

> up and down but the driver's side window will not wind down (don't

> worry - it's manual wind not electric so should be cheap to fix). The

> paint is flat and a bit scabby in places and some of the decals on it

> are faded. In reality it could do with a re-spray. One of the wing

> mirrors is missing but the previous owner still has it and is supposed to be

sending it to me in the next few days.

> Underneath it seems to be fine and the massive chassis and leaf

> springs are in very solid condition. The bull bars on the front are

> huge! The tyres are good. Inside the cab the vinyl seats and door

> cards are in good condition. The headlining and the sun visors are

> present but have been taken out of the vehicle.

> The engine needs a little work but nothing major. The engine smokes on

> startup which could indicate that the valve stem seals have hardened

> with the vehicle standing unused for long periods. Alternately it

> could be just the fuel that has deteriorated in the tank, as I know it

> has been there for at least a couple of years. When the engine warms

> the smoke does clear. I've had the engine looked at by tuning

> specialists and they reported that there was a slight air leak from

> the carb-to-engine gasket but the mixture has been adjusted to

> compensate for this. The oil pressure is good and emissions are low.

> I've driven the vehicle over a short distance and there seems to be a

> fuelling issue because the engine will die and cut out periodically,

> but again this could be partly due to the old fuel in the tank. I plan

> to pump out the old fuel and put in some fresh to see if it makes the

> vehicle run any better. The battery is brand new.

> "Jesus !", you might say, "What could I possibly do with a vehicle

> like this...?" Well, lots of things, really. If you didn't want to

> restore it to its former glory and take it to shows you could:

> * Use it as a recovery vehicle

> * Take off the back and fit a pick-up body or use it as a 'fifth wheel'.

> It would make a great pickup and you'd probably get quite a bit of

> money for the scrap aluminium, compressor, etc.

> * Use it as a fruit and veg delivery/sales van

> * Start your own gardening business.

> * Start a bouncy castle hire business (using the compressor ?)

> * Make an expedition vehicle or camper van

> * Turn it into a mobile disco using the stemlight (Just an idea...)

> * Someone even suggested it would make a good Ghostbusters vehicle !

>

> I'm sure you can think of others. As I said earlier, if it doesn't

> sell in a few weeks then I'm going to do something like this with it.

> Unfortunately there is currently no paperwork with the vehicle but

> I've been in touch with a previous owner and they are sending some

> through. If it doesn't materialise within the week I will apply for a

> new V5 and SORN in my name. The vehicle doesn't have tax or MOT so

> would have to be transported on the back of a car transporter. I can

> recommend a good delivery company if required.

> I think that's about as much as I can tell you at the moment. You now

> know much more than I did when I bought it a few weeks ago.

> If you have any more questions then please get in touch and I'll do my

> best to answer them. If you are interested in the vehicle then I'd say

> that it is essential that you come and look at it before you buy.

> Please contact me to arrange a convenient time. Don't leave it too

> long, though, as I'll withdraw it from sale if it doesn't sell in a

> few weeks and start work on it myself.

£ 1250,--
